Associate Pastor

Cabin John United Methodist Church is located in a suburb of Maryland just outside of Washington D.C.  We are family oriented Christian church with a deep desire to grow and share God’s love and salvation to the local communities and around the world. We have both Mandarin Chinese and English speaking congregations. On Sundays, the church averages 50 and 75 members attending worship services, as well as children, students and adults Sunday Schools. Prayer meeting, youth group and fellowships take place during the week. We currently have one senior pastor and are seeking a part-time (eventual full-time) associate pastor to assist with shepherding the spiritual growth of the English speaking congregation. Associate pastor does not have to be ordained by or belong to the United Methodist Church.

Personal characteristics

We are seeking a candidate who has a vibrant and continually growing relationship with Jesus Christ. A gifted, and well-trained teacher and preacher who boldly and courageously presents the Word of God. A self starter servant leader with excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively with all age groups. Experience ministering to young adults and professionals is a plus.

General Responsibilities

We are seeking a servant leader to provide pastoral care and leadership of the English speaking ministries.   The candidate will assist with the English worship, including coordinating weekly worship services, rotating with Senior pastor to prepare and deliver sermons.   Although the English speaking congregation is small with approximately 30+ people, including children, we are seeking a relationally and visionary focused leader to evaluate, plan and strengthen the current ministries.  The candidate must be self motivated, with a passion for making and growing disciples of Jesus Christ.  We are looking for a pastor to love, join our church family  and lead us to the next level of ministry.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Master of Divinity degree preferred, will work with seminarians working toward ordination
  • 2+ years of pastoral experience
  • Skilled in Gospel-centered teaching and preaching
